Designing for Children

Over the years I have worked on projects for pre-teens, middle schoolers, high schools and college students. With every project I believe in approaching the narrative from the perspective of the child and offering them as many options that will get them to the next step.

The Ouch and Moo Book:
Four Stories from Our Neighbourhood

Umbrella Concept by Poonam Bir Kasturi
Internship Project for Daily Dump, Bangalore, India in 2007

The central premise of the book was how to tell a story from multiple perspectives. Each of the stories has 4 main characters - human, cow, a banana and plastic. I wrote and illustrated A Cloak for Prithvi. Prithvi is a rag-picker who has a choice to make - wear his shiny new cloak made of plastic chip packets that will protect him from the rain but will give him a skin rash or just get wet in the monsoon and fall ill? Or could there be another solution? The inspiration for the illustration style was based on one of my favourite books, A Snowy Day by Jack Ezra Keats.
